{"id":5,"date":"2007-11-28T18:24:55","date_gmt":"2007-11-29T00:24:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/grannypat.haven2.com\/index.php\/5"},"modified":"2007-12-09T10:52:55","modified_gmt":"2007-12-09T16:52:55","slug":"5","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/grannypat.haven2.com\/","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/grannypat.haven2.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/11\/obit-v1bw.jpg\" title=\"obit-v1bw.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/grannypat.haven2.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/11\/obit-v1bw.jpg\" alt=\"obit-v1bw.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">Pat O&#8217;Connor<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">March 17, 1923 &#8211;November 28, 2007<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">\n<p:colorscheme colors=\"#ffffff,#000000,#808080,#000000,#bbe0e3,#333399,#009999,#99cc00\">  <\/p:colorscheme><\/p>\n<p v:shape=\"_x0000_s1026\" class=\"O\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype'; font-size: 9pt\">Patricia O\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Connor wife, mother, grandmother, traveler, citizen of the world, died peacefully on November 28, 2007 at North Memorial Hospice after suffering a massive <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype'; font-size: 9pt\">stroke on November 23, 2007.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype'; font-size: 9pt\">Energetic to the end, Granny Pat, as her grandchildren knew her, was an inspiring figure, telling many stories about her travels to far-flung places including Cambodia, <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype'; font-size: 9pt\">Morocco and Australia. She lived for extended times in India and Korea, making friends around the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype'; font-size: 9pt\">Pat was born on March 17, 1923 in Los Angeles, California to Paul and Grace Thuresson. She grew up in Riverside, California, graduated from Stanford University in <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype'; font-size: 9pt\">California in 1943. She worked for the Office of War Information in San Francisco and the Kiplinger Magazine in Washington, DC. Pat and Paul were married in Riverside, <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype'; font-size: 9pt\">California on June 17, 1948 and then moved to Minnesota.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype'; font-size: 9pt\">Pat was an active member of the League of Women Voters. She served on the boards of COMPAS and the Textile Council at the Minnesota Institute of Arts. She was <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype'; font-size: 9pt\">president of the St. Anthony Park Arts Forum. She volunteered teaching English to the wives of University of Minnesota foreign students. While in India, she volunteered <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype'; font-size: 9pt\">with a team of nurses at Holy Family Hospital in New Delhi surveying the surrounding villages to identify health needs in the area. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype'; font-size: 9pt\">She was an avid and creative knitter, <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype'; font-size: 9pt\">loved to meet with &#8220;the bookies&#8221; and her knitting group.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype'; font-size: 9pt\">Pat is survived by her husband, Paul; her son, Mike and his wife Marcie; her daughter, Maggie and her partner Linda; four grandchildren, Elliot, Dan, Robert and Richard; <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype'; font-size: 9pt\">her niece, Pat; grandniece, Kathleen; grandnephew, Tom; great-grandniece, Devin; and cousin, Gerdi Heath. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Maxine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype'; font-size: 9pt\">A memorial service will be held at the Campus Club at the University of Minnesota, December 15 at 3 pm. The Rev. Karla McGray Forsythe will officiate. Relatives and <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype'; font-size: 9pt\">friends are welcome to gather at the Campus Club at 2 p.m. Memorials to the <a href=\"https:\/\/128bit.clickandpledge.com\/default.aspx?ID=11861&amp;cid=US&amp;a=\" target=\"_blank\">Textile Center Pat O&#8217;Connor Library Endowment<\/a>, the 1666 Coffman Memorial Fund or a charity <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype'; font-size: 9pt\">of your choice are preferred in lieu of flowers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype'; font-size: 9pt\">We would like to thank the staff of the ER and Station 6A at the University of Minnesota Hospital and North Memorial Hospice for their care and support <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Pat O&#8217;Connor March 17, 1923 &#8211;November 28, 2007 Patricia O\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Connor wife, mother, grandmother, traveler, citizen of the world, died peacefully on November 28, 2007 at North Memorial Hospice after suffering a massive stroke on November 23, 2007.
